Caracterization:
This project consists in developing techniques and creating an information system that permits rapid identification and assessment of regional varieties of agricultural archipelago, or material allegedly marketed as such.The project has a multidisciplinary nature, which presents a biochemistry and molecular perspective with special emphasis on the protection and conservation of agricultural biodiversity. Falls under the research program of the Germplasm Bank of the University of Madeira.
Objectives:
Techniques optimization (biochemical, molecular), and selection of specific markers that allow identification and registration of agricultural and cultivar varieties, with special focus on traditional varieties;
Creation and development of an information system that ensures registration, rapid screening and monitoring of regional crop varieties;
Quality control of germplasm, seeds and products marketed with a designation of geographical origin or certification seal.
